Join our third cohort for insights into key Asia Pacific markets – South East Asia, Australia, Japan and South Korea – and find out where the opportunity is, how to recruit talent, and how to get your first deal.
Industry experts will share their expertise on international expansion challenges (i.e. getting deals, hiring talent, business culture etc) so you can learn from them before making the leap overseas. The key markets we will cover will be South East Asia, Australia, Japan and South Korea.
We will be running a series of reverse pitching sessions, where you will hear from top corporations from Asia Pacific who want their problems solved by UK tech scaleups, and will give you the opportunity to pitch directly for their business. We will be running these with a focus on companies from South East Asia, Australia, Japan and South Korea.

As part of the UK government’s Digital Trade Network, Tech Nation is supporting UK scale ups with their growth into Asia Pacific markets.
With more than 10 years experience advising tech companies on how to grow and succeed in overseas territories (UK, Europe, the US and Asia), Sam has recently joined Tech Nation to establish their first international support network for the UK’s leading scaling digital tech companies with overseas ambition.
Sam has recently returned to the UK after 8 years living in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and New York. During this time Sam worked with both US companies expanding to Europe and Asia and UK companies growing and doing business in the US.
She has extensive knowledge of the common hurdles and mistakes companies make and how to avoid them.
Max has close to 15 years of experience in Private Equity, tech startups and scaleups, MNCs and hospitality – he has lived and worked in Geneva, London, Beijing and Singapore.
Max has a proven track record working across Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America scaling businesses from inception to profitability, and is considered an expert in his field.
Prior to Tech Nation, Max was part of the founding team and Managing Director APAC at Winnow Solutions, an AI company specialising in food waste management – he led the APAC growth for 6 years, operating across 15 countries, managing 4 offices and support globally through 3 rounds of fundings.
As Head of APAC, Max is responsible for the link between the UK and Asia-Pacific. Max is working to build a community of experts, service providers, investors and entrepreneurs in the region. Max is also building a comprehensive market intelligence database for UK scaleups expanding into the region.
Seb is the Co-Founder of Nobly. Nobly Point of Sale is the #1 rated cloud EPOS in the market. Over the years Nobly has grown from a few shops in London, to thousands in over 40 countries. The company is headquartered in London, but has offices in Austin Texas, Melbourne Australia and a development centre boasting top engineers in Montevideo, Uruguay. Currently, Seb is overseeing the Global Sales Strategy, Growth and Finance.
Mark is an international business development and technology specialist. Working with globally ambitious tech companies, cities, regions and universities to build international trade, attract inward investment and commercialise new technologies. He has lived and worked in the EU (France and Netherlands).
Mark’s focus for Tech Nation is supporting companies expanding to Japan and South Korea, qualifying and on-boarding UK tech companies for the International Growth Programme and tech scouting to match qualified Asia Pacific opportunities to UK tech supply.
Sonja is an experienced trade and investment advisor with decades of experience across Australia, the USA and the UK. Sonja has worked with some of the leading tech companies to support their APAC expansion including Square, Slack, Zendesk, Eventbrite, GoPro, and Expensify. Sonja is a solopreneur and founder of The More Human Company. A leadership and wellbeing consultancy focused on creating sustainable high performance, human connection, resilient engaged leaders and people
For Tech Nation, Sonja is working with companies looking to expand to Australia. Sonja has an extensive network across Australia and supports companies to understand the market opportunity, market nuances and to optimise the support provided by government agencies in the market.
Claire is an experienced marketer, communicator, and strategist who has worked in professional services, international trade, sustainability, packaging, retail, and new product development within a range of businesses from a one-woman-band to some of the worlds biggest multinationals.
As Head of Australia Claire is the first employee on the ground for Tech Nation and is based in Sydney. Claire is building our network that will help to facilitate and accelerate the process of UK Tech Businesses landing and expanding into Australia and New Zealand.
Experienced Strategy Consultant and Programmes Director with a demonstrated experience in business development, operations, and delivering cross-border acceleration programmes and growth advisory projects. Examples of recent engagements:
With a background in Computer and Telecommunications engineering, a Full-Time MBA from the University of Cambridge, and 14+ years in various technology sectors, I got deelpy involved in the start-ups world, having mentored and worked closely with over 100 technology companies and built strategic partnerships with investors, accelerators, policy makers, and corporate innovation hubs in the UK, Europe, and the MENA region.
Sam has ten years of experience in communications and public affairs primarily working with governments and corporates across Asia. Previously, Sam was the Head of Communications and Marketing for Asia Pacific at the UK Department for International Trade, and prior to that Head of Stakeholder Engagement at Asia House, the UK’s centre for expertise on Asian trade, investment and public policy.
Sam now leads on the communications and marketing for Tech Nation international, raising the profile of UK tech and Tech Nation overseas.
Experienced in open and corporate innovation, Nicole works closely with the APAC startup ecosystem including corporations, startups and investors to support international business development and partnerships. Prior to Tech Nation, Nicole was Program Manager at Plug and Play APAC where she worked on community building and delivering international business development accelerator programs. With Tech Nation, Nicole now works with the founders and c-suite of the UK’s most ambitious scaling tech companies, understanding their overseas growth potential and supporting them on their international growth plans.
Catherine has worked as a freelance administrator for eight years. Prior to working at Tech Nation Catherine helped launch a new initiative at the Fintech company Smart Pension. Previous work includes theatrical director for events at The Southbank Centre, The Gulbelkin and The Wellcome with the disability arts charity Heart n Soul. Catherine also works as an actor and writer.
For Tech Nation, Catherine supports the day to day logistics and provides administrative support for the team.
