What do we need to get people into digital jobs?

Employers, diversity, careers and collaboration

It’s just over a month since the Digital Jobs Action Summit in Leeds where we started the process for creating a Northern Digital Jobs Strategy.

We had true leaders in the room, both speakers and attendees, who came from right across the North and much further afield to add their voice to our work.

Speaking with some of those who took the stage at DJAS about what we might need to do to change the digital jobs landscape, the issues really boiled down to:

  • needing employers to truly get behind this issue
  • accepting that diversity is a huge problem but a massive opportunity
  • changing how we talk about jobs, recruit and support our workforce
  • establishing how we get everyone working together on this issue

Employers

What should employers be doing more of?

Diversity

What kind of innovations can we make to the hiring process?

Careers

How can we inspire more people to get into tech?

Collaboration

What do we need to get started?

We’re using the contributions above, those offered at the Summit, plus an online poll made up of recommendations drawn from the latest research to inform our strategy work.
