We’re delighted to announce that on 1st September 2021, Anna Dick, CTO of Hiring Hub and an active Diversity & Inclusion advocate, will join our Board as a non-executive Director.
Anna brings with her a wealth of technical knowledge and experience in the digital world, having worked as a CTO for Manchester-based company Hiring Hub since 2018, as well as mentoring founders, businesses and tech leaders in the North.
Currently, Anna is based in Manchester, where the tech sector has boomed in recent years. Manchester received £163mn in investment in 2020 (according to data from our Tech Nation Report 2021), making it into the top four cities in the UK for tech investment, and the North as a whole is currently home to over 32,000 digital tech firms, with well over 150,000 people working in tech roles.
In her new role at Tech Nation, Anna is particularly excited to champion regional tech companies in the UK. In her own words, Anna strongly believes that “Tech Nation is fundamental in helping founders from every UK region receive the support, coaching and networking opportunities they need to scale. In my own experience, I’ve seen that it can be more challenging for Manchester-based tech companies to receive support & capital compared to other areas such as London and the South West, and I’m excited to help Tech Nation boost UK tech’s regional diversity, and scale the incredible tech businesses of our future.”
Keeping Diversity & Inclusion at the core
As a committed Diversity & Inclusion advocate who regularly contributes to Women in Tech events in the North, we’re excited for Anna to use her passion and dedication to help us at Tech Nation inspire and support female entrepreneurs, as well as female-led companies outside of London. Her powerful voice in this area will contribute to our work in ensuring that the UK tech ecosystem offers world-class support for founders in every UK region.
As our Board of non-executive Directors now has a 50:50 gender split, multiple ethnicities and a wide variety of areas of expertise, Anna’s appointment also makes our Board of Directors more representative of the community than ever. We’re delighted to say our Board is made up of founders, entrepreneurs, capital providers and now a CTO with a strong knowledge of building and scaling tech products for startups and scaleups in the North.
Working together to create a better future
From building and scaling tech products for startups, to advising larger businesses such as Co-op Digital and the BBC on digital processes, Anna’s deep knowledge of digital products, strategy and transformation places her in the perfect position to help us foster innovation across the UK.
Anna told us much of her excitement about starting her journey with Tech Nation comes down to the fact that she has been “living and breathing the startup-scaleup journey for the last 3 years”. After working in tech for 10+ years, Anna “fully understand[s] all of the challenges that scaling tech founders face every day. I’ve seen firsthand the power that a supportive tech ecosystem has in helping these businesses unlock their full potential, and the need for this support to be accessible across all corners of the UK.”
Moving forwards, we look forward to continuing to serve and support the North’s blossoming tech sector with Anna; tackling societal challenges, boosting the UK economy, creating more jobs and providing equal opportunities for all.
Welcoming Anna to the Board, our Chair, Stephen Kelly, said that Anna’s “extensive experience in the digital world as a CTO and Product Manager are invaluable to our team, in addition to her work as a Diversity & Inclusion Advocate mentoring aspiring girls and women in tech. As a father to three daughters and a champion to shape a better future, this is a cause particularly close to my heart.
It’s clear that the rate of digital transformation in the UK has accelerated hugely as a result of Covid-19 this year, and increasingly, tech products are a powerful contributor to economic productivity. I’m looking forward to working with Anna to help accelerate the tech startups and scaleups who are powering this digital revolution, in order to strengthen the UK’s economy, job creation and society at large.”
Welcome, Anna! We’re excited to have you on board.
