In recent years, Startup Weekend events have become firm fixtures on the calendars of many cities with tech credentials. We can’t write about every one in the North, but we do like to draw your attention to those that are particularly notable.
Next month, Startup Weekend Sheffield will take place for the tenth time in five years. Participants will begin by pitching an idea on Friday evening. They then go through the process of turning that idea into a business over the weekend. On Sunday evening, they will present their ideas and show off the prototype to an expert panel of judges.
Startup Weekends are a great way to get a taste of startup life. From testing your assumptions, to prototyping, to launching a minimum viable product, it’s all here in a tight, three-day window. It sounds challenging, but that’s the point – and startups launched here can become real businesses. Previous Sheffield events have given birth to Goodvidio and Northern Stars alum Airstoc.
For the tenth edition, Startup Weekend Sheffield’s organisers are bringing back judges and mentors from previous events. That includes me – I’m looking forward to being on the judging panel on Sunday evening.
Startup Weekend Sheffield takes place on 2-4 June 2017 at The Diamond. Tickets to take part are available now.
