In the next of our series of stories of exceptional talent, we speak to Brenda Della Casa. Brenda is an award-winning Content Leader, Writer and Strategist. She moved to London from New York in 2016 on a Tech Nation (Tier 1) Visa. Here’s why she chose to come to Blighty.

I have wanted to live and work in the UK for over half of my life and it has lived up to every expectation. I love British culture, the international community in London, the gorgeous countryside, the passion and support in the many women in tech communities and the many opportunities in the digital sector.

I am extremely humbled and proud to be a Tech Nation Visa recipient and I love the Tech Nation community. I am an ambassador for the programme and do all I can to make others aware of the scheme and assist them in their application journey. This has been the biggest achievement and blessing of my professional life.

UK tech is a vibrant scene full of men and women who want to innovate, inspire and create useful and interesting products and services that make a difference. It’s an exciting time to be in tech in the UK.

I have grown so much as a professional since moving to the UK, learning more about data, marketing automation and even Med Tech. I have spoken at Bloomberg and Pictet and I am currently the Head of Communications for a successful Med Tech firm while continuing to write, consult and speak.

If anyone is thinking about applying for a Tech Nation Visa, I would just say go for it. I know the requirements can seem intimidating but you likely have a lot more experience and influence than you realise. Do the work, take your time and submit your application. You have nothing to lose and so very much to gain.

And once you’ve got your visa, join the alumni network! You can reach out to me directly and we can have a chat. There is so much available in this community in terms of support and wisdom. Moving to the UK has its challenges and rewards and you may feel a little disconnected at first but you will find your way and there are plenty of people here who will help you along the way.

You have to go for what you want in life, and it won’t always be easy or perfect, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it or that it’s not wonderful. This visa changes lives. I know, it’s changed mine.
