Digital Trade Network

Asia Pacific

What is the Digital Trade Network?

In June 2020, the UK Government’s Department of International Trade (DIT) announced the launch of the Digital Trade Network for Asia Pacific.

The objective of the Digital Trade Network is to rapidly enhance the ability of UK digital companies to export and connect with international customers and investors.

Tech Nation is part of the Digital Trade Network initiative and has been commissioned by the UK Government Department for International Trade (DIT) to scope and build support for UK tech companies to expand and scale into the Asia Pacific region. This important work will start in Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Australia.

Thinking globally is vital for Tech Nation as we continue to expand our support for UK scale up companies, the majority of which are looking to grow their businesses internationally. 80% of our latest Upscale cohort cited international expansion as their number one challenge, and we want to help.

Why Asia Pacific?

It is an ideal time to boost the UK’s digital trade with the Asia Pacific region. Southeast Asia’s digital economy hit US$100 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow to US$300 billion by 2025 despite the challenges of COVID19.

The region also saw 40 million new Internet users in Southeast Asia alone, bringing the total number of internet users to 400 million  – the same size as the US market.

According to Tech Nation’s report on Unlocking Global Opportunities report, for UK tech companies, Singapore was one of the fastest rising global opportunities for trade, climbing 5 places in the rankings for global tech opportunity between 2019 and 2020. We also know the UK and Asia Pacific regions are joined by a passion for innovation.

The offer for UK tech

This is an exciting opportunity for UK tech companies looking to expand to Asia Pacific. We can support you with your growth into this exciting market.

We’re initially supporting companies that have taken part on one of our growth programmes and for those UK tech companies interested in expansion in Asia Pacific, Tech Nation is offering:

  • market intelligence and market entry support
  • match-making with overseas investors and business opportunities
  • access to our international network of people who have successfully scaled overseas
