Upscale: the book

What it takes to scale a startup. By the people who’ve done it.

“I feel like I woke up one morning to find I have a board, investors and 80 people to manage – and I don’t have a clue how to do it.”
Asi Sharabi, co-founder, Wonderbly

How do you scale your tech team? How can you fire a board member? How can you maintain your company culture as you scale? Just some of the things that keep founders up at night.

Find out how to crack them from 25 of the UK’s top tech entrepreneurs, investors and industry veterans in Upscale, the book. A collection of unmissable insights on the challenges all startups face as they grow.

About the author

James Silver’s career as a journalist began at the BBC, where he was a producer, reporter and documentary-maker at BBC Radio 4 and 5 Live. He went on to write over 400 feature articles and interviews – mostly covering media, technology and politics – for, among others, the Guardian, WIRED magazine, the Observer, Total Politics, the Independent, the Evening Standard and BBC News Online. Upscale is his first book.

By founders for founders, and those toying with starting a business, Upscale – based on the Tech Nation programme of the same name – covers the most pressing, practical and often painful issues founders face: from coping with stress to getting shot of a bad hire, to handling a tricky board member and opening a first overseas office.
